The Outlook add-in installation may fail if you don't have administrator access to your computer, or if something is interfering with your network connection.
Option 1 - Check System Requirements
Check here if your computer's components meet the minimum and recommended requirements for the Outlook add-in.
Option 2 - Run installation as administrator
- Locate the EXE file that was downloaded. If you need to re-download this file, you can do so here.
- Once downloaded, right click on the EXE file and select "Run as administrator"
Option 3 - Temporarily disable your firewall/anti-virus
Some firewall/anti-virus applications can block the Outlook add-in from successfully installing.
If possible, try temporarily disabling your security softwares, and then try installing the Outlook add-in again.
Windows comes with its own firewall, which you can disable by following these steps:
- Click on Start
- Click on Control Panel
- Click on System and Security
- Click on Windows Firewall
- Click on Turn Windows Firewall on or off (You may be prompted to enter the Admin password at this step)
- Under each network location, select the "Turn off Windows Firewall" option
Option 4 - Manually install Microsoft .NET Framework 4.6.2 (or higher)
The Outlook add-in requires that Microsoft .NET Framework 4.6.2 (or higher) be installed.
If this is not installed, then the add-in installer will attempt to download and install it automatically. If there is an error in this step, this can cause the add-in install to fail. Manually downloading and installing the .NET Framework can help in some cases.
- Download and install the latest version of the Microsoft .NET Framework here.
- Once installed, reboot your computer.
- Now, try installing the Outlook add-in again.
Option 5 - Manually install Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Tools for Office Runtime
The Outlook add-in requires that Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Tools for Office Runtime be installed.
If this is not installed, then the add-in installer will attempt to download and install it automatically. If there is an error in this step, this can cause the add-in install to fail. Manually downloading and installing it can help in some cases.
- Download and install the latest version of the Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Tools here.
- Once installed, reboot your computer.
- Now, try installing the Outlook add-in again.
Option 6 - Contact local IT
If all of the options above fail, there may be a policy on the computer that is preventing the install. Contact your local IT team to see if they are able to assist in installing the add-in.
